Joshua has an echo (ultrasound of the heart) coming up this Thursday. The anticipation always causes worry, loss of sleep, etc. for me. Really, he has been doing well lately, but I've noticed on more than one occasion over the past couple of weeks Joshua sweating (a sign that his heart is working extra hard). I also feel like he has been more pale, and bluer than usual. So Joshua's cardiologist decided it was time for a check up. I agreed.
This is the part where I need your advice...in the past Joshua has done pretty well with echos, but now that he's an expert walker there is no chance he'll lay still for an hour. It is hard for me to sit still in that room for so long, so I can't blame him. He doesn't watch movies or t.v. so that is out of the question. I may be able to distract him with food, that's his weakness. He is too young for bribes. So any other tips? I would love to hear them!
And please if you have any spare room in your nightly prayers - squeeze Josh in there!
The hope is that we'll have a good report to post come Thursday evening!

wow Allison, that is tough, I would bring food, lots of it, maybe you can read him his favorite books and he loves his pacifier, that should help. not sure what else besides sedation might work. Parker had an echo at 8 weeks and that was miserable and he could hardly move on his own then. I will squeeze him and your in this week for sure. I hope you have a good report.
I'll go and do a shadow show for him. The girls loved it when I did it for them. Seriously though, if you want me to, I'm not doing anything so I can go and help out.
I hope it goes well!
No advice here...sorry. Just wanted you to know that we pray for "Joshla" nightly!
Of course we'll squeeze in a prayer for Thursday.. and every other day!! Good luck at the echo and hopefully nothing is out of the norm.
Owen LOVES echos, but then again, he's not mobile yet. He thinks it's heaven to lay on the table and stare at the echo tech's "tv" of his heart.
I don't have any advice.. you could always sing to him. I enjoy doing that because I am an AWEFUL singer and it gives the echo tech something to giggle about.
You showed no signs of stress today when I saw you. We will definitely keep him and you in our prayers.
Ummm, I'm a dork because I didn't know he had his own blog. I'm sorry that you are seeing an increase in certain symptoms, but remember it could be something as simple as a change in medication.
As for sitting still for an echo, I don't have any great tips, because Casey still isn't so great during echos. Is he too young for a lollipop? Little kid flashlights, stickers, and those flashy wand things from the circus sometimes worked.
We'll be keeping Josh in our prayers all day tomorrow. Keep us updated. I will be wondering how it went all day long. Tyler loves lollipops. It was fun seeing the kids in monterey. Good luck!!
