Post-op Day 5

Chest tubes came out today. But it looks like they are going back in tomorrow. Pretty upsetting. It feels like a huge step back. But I'm praying for a miracle tonight. I can't even imagine the agony of being awake and having a tube placed between my ribs. I can't imagine going through any of this myself frankly.
But my parents brought the kids for a visit today, which was officially the high point of the week. And he's been vomiting less. Thank heaven for the little things.

Allison- I am so sorry. I feel awful for Josh and for you knowing what's to come. I'm praying for a miracle, too. We love you guys.

Hang in there.

:( This just makes me so sad.

He is so tough, but I wish we didn't have to keep finding out HOW tough. And just like you wonder how Josh does it, I too think that, and then look at YOU and wonder the same.

We are on board with the prayers for a miracle. Give him our love, and tell him LOTS of his cousins are praying for him.

Grr... That darn fluid. Praying it will go away on it's own today/tonight. (((hugs))

Poor little guy! I do hope that the fluid begins to resolve soon. I hope that Josh gets some nice Versed and Ketamine to make the chest tubes a little easier and that this resolves the fluid for good!

Uggh, I am so sorry they're talking about putting the chest tubes back in. I hope he is at least getting some temporary relief from having them out now. I really hope this is one of those things where the doctors tell you one thing one day and then something completely different the next day!

Oh buddy ... I think you're right, Allison, there can't be much worse than having tubes that are out REPLACED! I am sorry and will pray for a miracle with you!

My heart just broke. I am so sorry that Josh is going through so much. Poor guy. The vomitting is so awful because their sternum is so sore. I know exactly how you're feeling and all I wanted to do is take it away for Owen. I still do. We're praying for you Josh!!

I'm so sorry Allison. :( I hope today is a better day for you guys. I understand your frustration at the chest tubes. Drew had his in for two weeks after his last surgery. I will be praying for no more fluid! Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Oh Man, oh Man! I am so sorry! BUT...that's what happened with Casey. He had his chest tubes out for a few days, then developed the "thing I can't remember the name of", fluid in the lungs, and had to have them put back in. However, he was VERY sedated and I think asleep. So, fight for that comfort!! I was prepared because of Drew H's surgery, and also because they say it is SO common following the Fontan. Fight for sedation and pain meds so he doesn't remember. And keep the pictures of the happy, recovered kids in your mind, cuz they've been there :)
