Fontan

I got a call from UCSF this week, looking to schedule Joshua's Fontan. They wanted to schedule him for Feb.9. But that is just way too soon. We went ahead and scheduled him for early March. Reality is setting in. But at the same time I feel a sense of peace. This is the right time, Josh is healthy and strong. I know he'll do well. I need to remember, in the past he went into surgery very unhealthy, therefore he struggled with recoveries.  This time will be different because he's done amazing since recovering from the Glenn.
We have 6 weeks until surgery. I know it'll fly by so quickly.  It's funny to think that we spent 6 weeks in the hospital for his Norwood and then again for his Glenn. Talk about a l-o-n-g 6 weeks!
Well these next 6 weeks we intend to do a couple of things; have fun and stay healthy!
We really appreciate all of the words of encouragement, thoughts & prayers that have been said on our behalf.  It really lifts us to feel all of the support!

He's such a cutie pie! Glad you were able to plan his Fontan when it worked for you all...we're facing this very soon too. Maddie's pre-fontan cath is scheduled for Feb.4 and we've been told they'll probably want to do surgery 1-2 months following this. We may be in the hospital around the same time (different hospitals though). I could totally relate when you said going into this surgery is much different than the last two- same with us. Having them healthy going into their surgery is best but is harder for us to put them through it. We'll be thinking special thoughts and saying our prayers for Joshua and your family as his Fontan approaches. Heart hugs!

He is just so cute! Prayers for your upcoming surgery. It does make a big difference going into the surgery at a healthy stage...we experienced Liam's first "healthy going-into-it" heart surgery last month, and boy the difference...from a previous 2 week stay to just 4 days...crazy how they recover and bounce back! Hugs!!

Wow, 6 weeks does seem really soon, although it totally makes sense that they would want to do it now when he's so strong and doing so well. Will they be able to un-do the diaphragm thing at the same time, or would that have to be a separate surgery?

Anyway, I'll definitely bring you some lunch or something one day while you're in town! Thinking of you guys...

Well, I can actually say that I am happy for you! I know it's hard, I know it's not fun, but you will see a BIG difference with the fact that he is going into the Fontan healthy, and how much more pink and amazing he will be right after! Just keep him healthy, Casey's had to be rescheduled due to a minor virus (the day before). You will be amazed at the even more energetic and happy kid you will have after the Fontan!

This is my favorite picture of Josh EVER!! He looks so charming, sneaky, silly, and precious. Those dimples...:):)

My bets are on a healthy Joshie blowing our socks off with his speedy recovery. And we'll be praying for just that!

Yikes. 6 weeks will be here way too soon, but how great it will be to have this one over with and no longer have the next surgery looming out there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I love that picture! Joshua is so adorable! I'm glad you were able to get a date you're comfortable with. I guess really, no matter when the date of surgery is it's too close...for me anyway.

We'll be praying for Joshua to stay healthy and for you to have a fun-filled 6 weeks with your little man!!

My son's glenn was on February 9th. It looks like we're skipping the Fontan, remaining a 1 1/2 vent. Glad I ran across your blog. Always good to meet heart families~
